The SOCIETA' ITALIANA ACETILENE & DERIVATI - SIAD S.p.A. was founded in Bergamo in 1927; born out of the enthusiasm for chemistry and mechanics of Prof. Quirino Sestini and Dr Bernardo Sestini, and specifically to exploit the Sestini patents. The Sestini patents involved the manufacture of a monolithic porous mass so that acetylene could be put into cylinders and be stored and transported reliably and in complete safety.
Since then, SIAD has concentrated it efforts on research, in collaboration with main university centres, in order to develop and offer more and more efficient and innovative uses and applications for industrial gases.
Today, SIAD is a leader in the production and marketing of the whole range of industrial, special and medical gases, as well as related services.
Innovation in processes, products and services have always been SIAD's strengths; this firm belief and focus was further strengthened thanks to an agreement reached in 1989 with the US multinational PRAXAIR, leader in the gases sector world-wide.
